Through competitive analysis of various industry leaders in the fitness online platform space, our team was able to discover and examine various designs and functionalities. We found that personal trainers and coaches were seeking for easy-to-use platforms in particular.
Due to time constraints within the project, the team decided to utilize surveys to gather the most information from users for this step. Drafting priority research questions helped me to write all-encompassing, necessary questions about what fitness professionals are looking for when creating the survey.
After synthesizing the survey responses, our team was able garner key insights and create a persona to help define the problem space. From those key insights, I was able to narrow down and identify the problem into ultimately helping the fitness professional feel confident in not only managing, but growing their online business, as a long term career.
Our team was then able to begin user stories and prioritize them for future red routes. From this, I was able to create and iterate on potential red route user flows, in which I also made sure to ask our client what he also thought would be one of the main ways for the platform to answer the problem statement. After several iterations, I was able to narrow down the flows for the MVP.
Our team sketched multiple iterations of our 2 main red routes, where I got to focus on the 2nd red route that began after the dashboard and helped answer the HMW.
Due to time constraints, our team was able to conduct one round of usability tests with 3 participants, in order to identify any usability issues. I was able to conduct one usability test in a remote setting to test both red route flows. The following showed us what to iterate for our final prototype for the 2nd red route I was a part of:
As a UX Designer, I was used to always thinking about the user and so it took some time for me to learn how to remind myself how important it was to have the client's buy in as well. However, through constant communication, backed with user research, the client said he was surprised how he came to appreciate our jobs as UX designers and see the value of user research and feedback by the end of the project, in which we were able to come to agreements in design decisions along the way.
